Why Yoga for Kids?

For many children today, every aspect of life is a competition. School, sports, popularity, you name it. Maybe it teaches them about being tough and excelling in the world, but it could mean they approach life in a competitive and judgemental way. A way that can create unwelcome stress and anxiety as they constantly feel the burden of expectation. 


And while we live in a dazzling age with unrivalled access to knowledge, the dominant presence of multimedia devices and the time spent on them by children are clear indicators of the shift in lifestyles and priorities of our new generation. While these media technologies are valuable resources in children and young people’s lives for communication, learning, and entertainment, they also result in constant competition for youngster’s attention and more and more children (and adults) are finding it difficult to switch off and relax.

 At YOGADOES we help children and young people find the fun back in the real world, in a non-competitive environment. Yoga isn't just for very bendy people, it’s for everyone!  You don't have to be great at football or netball or any other traditional sports to do yoga, its inclusiveness is one of the many reasons it’s so great!  Yoga is proven to teach youngsters methods of coping with stress and thus, contribute positively to balance in life, well-being, concentration and mental health.  Similarly, yoga in schools helps students improve focus, concentration, resilience, mood, and self-regulation skills pertaining to emotions and stress.

And let's not forget Yoga is exercise!  Teaching our children the importance of a healthy approach to our bodies is key to maintaining a healthy approach to the future.
